Our founder has been extraordinarily fortunate. Since arriving on September 29, 1953, he has witnessed, experienced, and walked alongside humanity from A to Z. Born into modest poverty and plenty of insanity, he has spent a lifetime studying practical solutions and simplicity—to save his own self and family.
For decades, his work has gone wherever human struggle becomes real—from families in crisis and people experiencing homelessness to prisons, death row, and mental health hospitals.
From people struggling on street corners to billionaires in boardrooms, he has witnessed remarkably similar human struggles for stability, identity, meaning, and hope.
He has always searched for better answers beyond labels alone—examining identity, environment, relationships, systems, personal responsibility, and the fundamental human need
to be seen, heard, understood, and supported.
His work through EEI combines direct personal involvement, advocacy, collaboration, education, practical resources, and relationships with independent voices willing to challenge conventional approaches to mental health—for the struggling and successful alike.

We don't want to read the next story. We want to help prevent it.

For more than two decades, this work has asked one urgent question:
What might happen if we reached a woman in crisis before she reached the point of no return?
Our involvement began in 2002 when Fred DeFalco was asked to help a woman prepare for a 25 year prison sentence after the murder of her child. What began as one request became a relationship spanning more than two decades—and a continuing commitment to women and families whose futures might be changed when someone recognizes the crisis, intervenes early enough, stays long enough, and refuses to give up.
Today, Troubled Women is being rebuilt around prevention and intervention—connecting women and families in crisis with human support, professional resources, advocacy, education, and people willing to act before another tragedy becomes another headline.
THIS WORK STARTED BECAUSE FRED TOOK ACTION, TO CONTINUE IT NEEDS PEOPLE WHO WILL ACT.
We are seeking leadership, mental-health professionals, collaborators, volunteers, financial supporters, and one extraordinary person with the heart and ability to help lead this initiative forward.
